Sod Installation

Sod is calculated by square yards. To calculate the amount of sod needed you need to divide the area you want to sod into as many rectangles, circles, or triangles as you can. To calculate the total square yardage of your lawn please follow these easy instructions on how to do so:
Please note that any misinformation could result in either too much sod or not enough sod. You want to make sure that your calculations are correct. Please also remember that any excess sod that you might have cannot be returned.

RECTANGLES
To find the square yardage of a rectangle multiply the length times the width then divide by 9. |
TRIANGLES
To find the area of triangles its almost exactly like finding the square footage of a rectangle except there is one more step. Take the length times the width then divide that number by 2. Once you have this number divide it by 9 to calculate the square yardage.
This only works with triangles that have a 90 degree angle.
If you have a triangle that is odd shaped, you have to do it twice. Start at the corner opposite the longest side and draw a line. This will create 2 right triangles. Now find the square yardage of the triangles as instructed above. |

CIRCLES
Circles are easy to figure out. Take the radius of the circle and square it. If the circle is 20 feet across take half of that (10) and multiply it by itself (10 x 10 = 100).
Now take that number and multiply it by pi (100 x 3.14 = 314) the area of this circle is this number.
Now divide that number by 9 (314 / 9 = 34.88 sq yd. ) to get the square yardage. In this case it is 34.8. |
